Solutions galore!
Hey there 👋🏻
In our learning circle on Monday, we were joined by Khushi, Nikunj, Shanya, and Yash! Our members joined us excited and curious; also tired but ready to power on!
We began the circle by asking if they would rather attempt a climate change solution that has maximum impact or a climate change solution that they are passionate towards. Shanya shared that choosing the latter keeps her interested in the cause, else it becomes transactional for her; while Nikunj shared that the former is important so we are able to achieve the end goal effectively.
The theme for the week is solutions and we started by watching this video to get an overview of the solutions to climate change out there.
The video lists various solutions that (i) reduce emissions sources, bringing them down to zero, (ii) support emissions sinks, uplifting the nature’s carbon cycle and (iii) improve society, fostering equality for all. While our members were aware of solutions like wind and solar, they were surprised women’s education was a solution too. And it indeed is.
The video is slightly dated so we went over the current ranking of the solutions as laid out by Project Drawdown across various sectors. Members then reflected on which solution(s) appealed to them, shared why they were interested in working on that solution and its estimated impact on emission reduction. Yash mentioned that working on plant-rich diets will help both the planet’s as well as our health. Shanya loved how everything is a solution. To which we say, that means everyone can contribute. :)
We also asked our members which sectors’ solutions were they most curious about. The top choices were food, agriculture, land use; coastal and ocean sinks; electricity; and health and education. We plan to go over all the sectors in the coming weeks and would start with food, agriculture, and land use. By the way, the poll is still active till Sunday and we would love your vote too.
Knowing that there are concrete solutions out there right now calmed all of us momentarily and this is precisely the kind of clear-headed focus we need right now.
We are always looking for feedback on how we can improve. Please consider sharing your thoughts with us at ecorageous@gmail.com!
If you found it valuable to be a part of the circles and have friends/family/colleagues who might find benefit from being a part of them too, do consider inviting them to the circle by sending them this form.
